In school I discovered my love of anything history. I loved learning about old civilizations, about the industrial revolution, and about Canadian history. That love has never gone away. Now I have a new reason for learning history, and I am excited! Just before we get into the history of things, I want to quickly recap what I’ve been up to in the world.
Expansion around the base
To start, I expanded more around my base. I expanded my wheat fields yet again to help increase the amount of straw I get. I also added a rice field that I am working on filling with the rice. With the extra straw coming in I was able to start making the roof of my build. Lastly, I decorated the cattle storage room.
Exciting discoveries
Speaking of rooves and storage rooms – I discovered new decoration blocks! While I was in the crafting table, I saw that I was able to make shelves. I was super happy about this as they look so much better than using trapdoors. I also discovered a frame block that I can use to help the roof look more supported. I may not keep the frame blocks, but we will see later.
The ages and stages of my world
Back to the history stuff! While I was planning out my world, I realized that Minecraft goes through its own stages of development. You start with wood tools and quickly make your way into the Stone Age when you collect stone. As soon as you make Iron, you enter the iron age with an Iron pick. The next stage doesn’t have an advancement other than “Cover Me with Diamonds,” but it is one of the last stages. Unless you include Netherite upgrades as its own stage.

How I chose to apply it
Since Minecraft follows the historical development of the real world, I thought that I would also follow this progression. I will be taking time in each stage and building according to that time in history. I’ve set up ages for my world, which combines all the different times in history starting with the Stone Age.
The Stone Age
Historically, there are three eras of the stone age: early, middle and late. This age is also known as the Neolithic age. This was the time in history where humans went from being nomadic to farming and tending to animal herds. They also started settling in communities.
This works perfectly for the start of Minecraft as I set up my first home area. I need to collect animals and farm for food and have a safe shelter at night. I like that there is also an achievement for this, so I wanted this to be my first age. I will be building in the style of historical builds from the stone age.

After the Stone Age there are some transition ages before the Iron age. The Chalcolithic (or Copper Age) where humans start smelting copper and using copper tools. There is copper in Minecraft, however it needs to be smelted in a furnace, so I am going to skip this age and just use copper in the next age. The other transition age is the Bronze age, which is its own age unto itself. This was when humans started smelting bronze and making bronze tools. I will also be including this age into the stone age as there aren’t any bronze tools in the game.
The Iron Age
The next stage that I will be implementing into my world is the Iron Age. This is when I will have access to everything made with Iron. All tools, armor and weapons. I will also be able to start using a stove.

After the three stages of ancient history was the Classical Era. It was at this time that the Greek and Roman empires were world leaders. In Late Antiquity there was a great spread of politics and religion around the known world at the time. Because of this, I will be building in Greko-Roman style while I am in the Iron Age of my world.
The Medieval Age
The next stage of history was the Post-Classical Era or the Medieval Era. This is split into the Early Middle Ages, the High Middle Ages and the Late Middle Ages. It was in the Late Middle Ages that minecarts started being used. When I reach this stage, I will be building in the Medieval style and will have access to diamond tools and minecarts.

I have more planned out, but I want to leave it there for now. Can’t give everything away! I’m really excited to see how this plays out. I will be enjoying taking my time in each age. I want to learn about each stage of history while I am in that age, and I can share what I learn with you all! Don’t forget to check out the stream VOD where I talk about all of this and a little more!
